Join And Use Deezer Family With An Independent Account

An independent account allows you to log in with your own credentials with complete privacy, meaning you can keep all your favorite content and playlists even if your Family admin unsubscribes from the Deezer Family plan. In this article, we outline how to join Deezer Family with an independent account and how to convert your Family Profile into an independent account.

How to join a Family as an independent account

Ensure that the Admin account and the account that you want to join with are in the same country.

Note: You must have a Deezer Free account in order to join a Family. This means that if you are a Deezer Premium subscriber, you must unsubscribe from it and wait for your current period to end before joining

  1. An invite will have been sent to you from the Admin of the Family account. Select the link
  2. Select ACCEPT INVITE
  3. Enter your login details or select Sign up if you don't have a Deezer account

    A message will appear asking you to verify whether the correct account is selected

  4. Select YES IT'S MY ACCOUNT if it is your account

    Note: Select CHANGE ACCOUNT if an incorrect account is displayed

How to convert an existing Family profile into an independent account

  1. When you are logged in with your profile, go to Settings Settings.png
  2. Select Add an email address and password
  3. Enter an email address and password for your account

Alternatively, if you are the admin and want to convert another profile:

  1. When you are logged in with the admin profile, go to Settings Settings.png
  2. Select Family Members
  3. Select the three dots ThreeDotsHorizontal.svg menu next to the profile you want to convert
  4. Select Convert this profile into an independent account
  5. Enter an email address and password for the account

    Note: When the account admin has converted a profile into an independent account, the owner of that independent account will be logged out. They will need to use the credentials entered by the admin to log back in

Warning: You are able to convert profiles into independent accounts even if the Family account no longer has an active subscription. If this happens, the owner of the independent account will no longer be part of the Family account. They will have their own credentials as a Deezer Free account

  1. When you are logged in with your profile, go to Settings Settings.png
  2. Select Add an email address and password
  3. Enter an email address and password for your account

Alternatively, if you are the admin and want to convert another profile:

  1. When you are logged in with the admin profile, go to Settings Settings.png
  2. Select Family Members
  3. Select the three dots ThreeDotsHorizontal.svg menu next to the profile you want to convert
  4. Select Convert this profile into an independent account
  5. Enter an email address and password for the account

    Note: When the account admin has converted a profile into an independent account, the owner of that independent account will be logged out. They will need to use the credentials entered by the admin to log back in

  1. Within the Members page, select the profile that you want to convert into an independent account
  2. Go to the profile for that account
  3. Select Account settings
  4. Within the My Information tab, select Set as independent account
  5. Choose whether you would like to connect with Facebook or connect with Google
  6. Enter your Facebook or Google password

    Note: If you're already logged in, it may not be necessary to enter your password. If the email address attached to the Facebook or Google account is already in use, an error message will be displayed, and you'll need to delete the existing Deezer account associated with this email or enter a different email

    Once linked, you'll automatically be logged out from the Admin account and logged into your independent account

Tip: Remember to log out and log back in again on all devices with your Facebook or Google credentials

If you want to change to a paid subscription of your own

If at some point the Family account holder cancels their subscription or moves over to an individual one, don't worry! You can still use the profile you have set up independently to your own subscription, without losing all your favorite content. Once the Family account holder has cancelled their subscription, you will be able to subscribe to your choice of Deezer service by logging into your account and selecting Account Management under your profile settings.

Invites expire after 30 days. Ask the Admin to resend the invite.

A maximum of 5 members can be added to a Deezer Family plan on top of the Admin (subscriber). Please ask the Admin to delete or remove members and resend you the invite. If this is not possible, you may want to consider registering for one of our other Deezer plans.

The plan you are trying to join is not based in the same country as you, so you cannot complete the journey.

You'll need to cancel your existing Premium plan first before you can join. Don't worry, you'll keep all of your favorites and playlists.
